Last month, the Kenosha County Board voted 22-0 to direct the finance staff to allow body cameras for the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department next year, the Kenosha News reported.
At an appointment , Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian said the force is predicted to urge body cameras in 2022, The Washington Post reported.
In 2017, then-alderman Kevin Mathewson passed a resolution for all Kenosha cops to wear body cameras, consistent with Newsweek. Currently there's $200,000 allocated for them within the 2022 Capital Improvement Plan, Newsweek reported.
As protests raged within the streets and Blake fought for his life within the hospital after being shot seven times, city officials reiterated the importance of counting on department-issued cameras instead of bystanders’ cell phones.
“This situation what happened here today, whether it finishes up being justified or not, this highlights the necessity for the town , the mayor especially, to deal with things this year with this budget,” County Board Supervisor Zach Rodriguez told the Kenosha News as he received the scene Sunday. “And plan to all citizens to mention that our officers are getting to carry this equipment.”
Blake’s three children were within the car when he was shot, the family’s attorney, civil rights lawyer Ben Crump, said Monday.
