It's not a First Time 'Twitter Hacked'

Just like a recent attack twitter confirms 130 were targeted in a hack that hijacked accounts of Former President Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Joe Biden, Jeff Bezos, and more.

The Investigation tells us that was not the first time when twitter hacked by cybercriminals.

Last Year Report:

According to CNBC: Several high-profile Twitter accounts have been hacked Last year, including Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s.

When it happened, bizarre messages, including with racial slurs and one that defended Third Reich, were posted to his 4.2 million followers.

On Wednesday, Hollywood actress Chloe Moretz’s account, which has quite 3.1 million followers, was also hacked. Similarly, strange messages were tweeted in her name, including what was allegedly Dorsey’s Social Security number. Then, also on Wednesday, another account owned by rapper Joey Badass was breached. This time, private messages between Joey Badass and Chloe Moretz was shared with Twitter.

SO My Question is 'DO you feel Safe on social media?'
The Major Key points from Last Attacks in 2020:

  • The hackers received $121,000 from over 400 payments to three separate bitcoin addresses, according to blockchain analysis firm Elliptic.
  • “We believe approximately 130 accounts were targeted by the attackers in some way as part of the incident,” Twitter said Thursday.
  • The hack compromised the accounts of several prominent figures in business and politics.
  • The FBI is reportedly now looking into the attack.

[How often Social media Accounts are hacked?]

Measuring the cost of high-profile breaches is more difficult; most instances of account takeovers do not reveal the full impact of the breach. We can, however, point to specific instances where the cost of the breach has been quantified. For example, the 2016 takeover of NFL rookie Laremy Tunsil’s Twitter and Instagram accounts caused an estimated $21 million in damages.

In 2013, the Dow Jones industrial average dropped almost an entire percent because of fake tweets posted to the Twitter account of the Associated Press. This means a drop of $136 billion. The attempted takeover of @jb, also in 2013, would have resulted in over $500,000 in damages and killed his startup had the attack been successful. Clearly, these account takeovers have potentially huge financial impacts on the victims.

How To Keep Your Social Accounts Secure
  • Don’t click on suspicious messages or links, even if they appear to be posted by someone you know.
  • Flag any scam posts or messages you encounter on social media to the website, so they can help stop the threat from spreading.
  • Use unique, complicated passwords for all your accounts.
  • If the site offers multi-factor authentication, use it, and choose the highest privacy setting available.
  • Avoid posting any identity information or personal details that might allow a hacker to guess your security questions.
  • Don’t log in to your social accounts while using public Wi-Fi, since these networks are often unsecured and your information could be stolen.
  • Always use comprehensive security software that can keep you protected from the latest threats.
  • Keep up-to-date on the latest scams and malware threats
